To invest in innovation and sustainability, Europe has promoted initiatives such as Next Generation EU, within which the NODES Program, funded by the European Union under PNRR MUR – M4C2, aims to strengthen the connection between research and industry, encouraging the development of innovative and sustainable technologies.

A project bridging sustainability and digitalization.

NODES offers an opportunity to foster innovation in the field of biotechnological materials, demonstrating how the union between biotechnology and digitalization can lead to the development of advanced and sustainable products. Within NODES, Vegea promotes the integration of chemistry, agriculture, and digitalization, developing innovative systems aimed at increasing energy savings and reducing CO₂ emissions, as well as promoting more efficient use of natural resources and less dependence on fossil fuels.

An innovative plant for solvent-free processes.

Vegea is developing a cutting-edge coating pilot plant for the production of Digital Bio-Leather, a technical fabric obtained from polymers derived from the vegetable waste of the wine industry and produced through innovative production processes. Digital BIO-Leather is created through solvent-free processes for greater sustainability and integrates nanocomposite materials to improve mechanical resistance and durability of the finished product. Additionally, the plant will be equipped with IR lamps to minimize energy consumption and an innovative digital sensor system that detects and corrects any coating defects in real-time, minimizing material waste.

Thanks to the innovation proposed by Vegea in the NODES Program, the textile sector is advancing towards biobased and solvent-free materials capable of replacing traditional polymers. With the support of strategic partners, the project demonstrates how research and technology can converge to make the industry more sustainable and competitive. Funded by the European Union under the Next Generation EU program, the project represents an ambitious challenge and a concrete opportunity for responsible innovation.
